ONEONTA, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team went to Hartwick College on Friday evening to face off against the Hawks.

AU played close with the Hawks for much of the contest but wound up falling by a score of 71-59.

The Saxons (4-10, 0-3 Empire 8) dug themselves a hole in the first quarter, getting outscored 21-12, but played a more competitive second period thanks to some help from the long ball from multiple players.

Hartwick came out strong in the third quarter and went up by as many as 21 points before heading into the final quarter with a 60-42 lead.

AU played saved its strongest play for the final period as it outscored the Hawks 17-11 during the final 10 minutes but it was too little too late and brought the Saxons their third loss in the conference.

Bri Hicks (Burlington, VT / Ithaca) finished with a team high 15 points on the evening.
Gillian Flint (Caledonia, NY / Caledonia-Mumford) scored 14 and pulled down seven rebounds while
Ana Ion (Bucharest, Romania / Episcopal of Jacksonville) reached double figures with 10 points and forced three steals on the defensive end.

Alfred will look to turn things around at Elmira College tomorrow at 4PM.
