Sam Dagon (Hornell, NY/Hornell) of the Alfred University men's basketball team was named one of the Empire 8 Men's Basketball Co-Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon as made official in an announcment by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Dagon had two career-high performances back-to-back in his strongest weekend of his collegiate career as he totaled 57 points in two days. He first broke his career-high scoring as he scored 25 points in a loss to St. John Fisher College. He shot .600 from the floor with 9-of-15 field goals made along with a career-high four made 3-pointers as he was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. He finished the Fisher game with a perfect, 3-for-3 from the free throw line as he didn't miss a single free throw the entire weekend.
On Saturday, Dagon broke a career-high again as he scored 32 points in a big overtime win over Nazareth College, shooting 11-for-22 from the floor and tied his made 3-pointer career-high, going 4-for-9 from 3-point land. He was 6-for-6 from the charity stripe, making it his sixth game this season with a perfect performance from the free throw line. Dagon neared a double-double as he pulled down nine rebounds (eight defensive). He also tacked on four assists on Saturday as well.
Dagon and the Saxons will next hit the road for a pair of Empire 8 contests. The first game is at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY on Friday, January 17 at 5:30 p.m. and the next is at Elmira College on Saturday, January 18 at 2 p.m.
