Eaton's Hat-Trick Leads AU to Victory Over Baruch

SaxonTV YouTube Recap

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team hosted Baruch College on Sunday afternoon in day two of the Bryan Karl Tournament. The Saxons (1-3, 0-0 Empire 8) came back from a two goal deficit in the first half to claim their first victory of 2019.

First-Year forward, Justin Eaton (Williamson, NY / Williamson) had a career day to lead the Saxons with a hat-trick. All three of Eaton's goals came in the first half.

The Bearcats were first to break through on the scoreboard with a goal less than four minutes into the contest.

AU settled in for the next 23 minutes until Ricardo Llanos converted another goal for Baruch at the 27 minute mark.

Following the second Bearcat goal, the Saxons began to come to life.

A clustered penalty box ended in Baruch committing a foul which led to a penalty kick opportunity for AU. That was when Eaton stepped up and perfectly placed it into the back of the net to cut the deficit to just one goal.

Five minutes after the converted penalty, Eaton received a pass from Matthew Wedzik (North East, PA / North East) and turned it into another Saxon goal, which tied the game up at two.

With just over three minutes to play in the half, Eaton capped off his hat trick when Mason Sanborn (Wappingers Falls, NY / Roy C. Ketcham) set him up in front of the net. That goal put Alfred ahead by a score of 3-2 at halftime.

The second half began the same way as the first, with a Baruch goal just three minutes into the period, which made it a tie game once again.

At the 76:48 mark, Zachary Gloskin (New City, NY / Clarkstown South) lined up for a corner kick and struck a perfect ball in front of the net. Scott Larsen (Lanoka Harbor, NJ / Lacey Township) deflected that ball to Charles Hawkins (Goshen, NY / Goshen) who finished it for a goal and put AU up 4-3.

That would be enough for the Saxons to hold on for the remainder of the second half and come away with the 4-3 victory.

The Saxons will be back at Yunevich Stadium on Wednesday to host Pitt-Bradford. That one is set to kick off at 7PM.
