ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team won on Saturday evening with a convincing first half performance over Pitt-Bradford. The Saxons (3-1, 0-0 Empire 8) scored three first half goals for their second straight victory.

Natalie O'Brien (Syracuse, NY /East Syracuse-Minoa Central) got things started for AU with some nifty footwork that ended with a strike into the back of the net, putting the Saxons up 1-0 just five minutes in.

Amanda Guariglia (Valley Stream, NY / Valley Stream South) got in on the action just 10 minutes later when she sent an Emily Wright (Dallas, TX / Plano West) corner kick into the goal with a header past the Panther keeper.

Karah Landries (Angelica, NY / Genesee Valley Central) wasted no time after checking into the game to make her mark on it as she took a pass from Olivia Cronmiller (Livonia, NY / Livonia) and turned it into the third Saxon goal of the first half with around 12 minutes still left to play.

Alfred took that 3-0 lead into the halftime break.

The AU offense cooled down in the second half as Pitt-Bradford was able to keep the Saxons off of the board for the entirety of the period. The defense held its ground for Alfred though and kept the Panthers away from any scoring opportunities.

AU was able to run away with the 3-0 shutout for its third win on the young 2019 season.

"I thought the team did well tonight," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "The work rate was there for most of the game which is something we have really been focusing on."

The Saxons will be at Hilbert College on Tuesday afternoon for a matchup with the Hawks with that one set to begin at 4PM.
