HAMBURG, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team was on the road for a Tuesday afternoon matchup with Hilbert College. The Saxons (4-1, 0-0 Empire 8) ran away with their third straight victory in a 5-0 shutout over the Hawks.
Natalie O'Brien (Syracuse, NY / East Syracuse-Minoa Central) continued her impressive start to the season with a goal just 15 minutes into the game.
Minutes later, a long pass from midfield from
Emily Wright (Dallas, TX / Plano West), set up
Quinn Fowler (Chester, NY / Washingtonville) for a header goal to make it 2-0 in favor of the Saxons.
Hilbert held AU in check for the remaining 25 minutes of the first half as the teams went to the break with Alfred leading 2-0.
The second half started in similar fashion, as O'Brien netted her second goal of the game in the 51
stminute.
After assisting on multiple goals in the first half, Wright contributed with a goal of her own at the 58:02 mark off of a pass from
Abigail Austin (Hornell, NY / Hornell).
The score remained 4-0 for much of the second half until
Olivia Ford (Cato, NY / Cato-Meridian Central) buried her first goal of the season during the final minutes to put Alfred up 5-0.
That would be plenty for AU to walk away with its fourth win on the season.
"We are continuing to grow as a team and figure each other out," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "It was nice to get a win and be able to get a lot of different players on the field tonight. We are looking forward to getting back to work for Friday's game."
O'Brien led the Saxon attack with two goals. Wright finished with a goal and two assists. Fowler ended with one goal, while Austin and
Olivia Cronmiller (Livonia, NY / Livonia) each had one assist.
The Saxons will be back at Yunevich stadium this Friday for a matchup with The College at Brockport. That one will kickoff at 6PM.
