BUFFALO, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team found itself back in the win column after a road win at Medaille College on Wednesday afternoon. The Saxons (2-1, 0-0 Empire 8) ran away with the five 5-1 victory.
After multiple shots on goal early in the match, AU got on the board when
Katline Cartwright (Le Roy, NY / Le Roy) scored her first goal of the game at the 21:32 mark of the first half.
Natalie O'Brien (Syracuse, NY / East Syracuse-Minoa Central) scored her second goal of the young season with 10:14 to play in the first half and put the Saxons up 2-0.
Abigail Austin (Hornell, NY / Hornell) got in on the action in the final minutes of the first half to give Alfred a 3-0 advantage at halftime.
Just eight minutes into the second half
Lexi Riffelbach (Clifton Park, NY / Catholic Central) scored her first goal of the season to extend the Saxon lead.
Cartwright capped of the dominating Alfred win at the 63:29 mark to make it 5-0 Alfred.
Medaille got on the board late in the game but never threatened the Saxon lead throughout the contest.
O'Brien led AU with a goal and two assists. Cartwright finished with two goals. Austin had a goal and an assist while Riffelbach finished with one goal.
"I thought the girls did well today," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "We are continuing to improve every time we step onto the field. It was nice to get everyone into the game."
The Saxons will host University of Pittsburgh-Bradford Saturday night for their home opener at 7PM.
