Aaron Griffin (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) of the Alfred University football team was named the Empire 8 Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon as made official in an announcement by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro.
After breaking his career-high in single game rushing yards the week prior at Ithaca College with 97, senior Griffin went off on Saturday during the Saxons' first home night football game since 2002 with 229 rushing yards including a long of 80 yards as he recorded three touchdowns on the ground in a dominant, non-conference throttling of University of Rochester. He helped the Saxons win, 56-13 as he carried the ball 18 times to average 12.7 a touch as he never lost a single yard, gaining 229 yards for his total net. Griffin's performance on Saturday moved him into the #6 spot All-Time at Alfred University for most yards in a single game. He was also second on the team in receiving with three receptions for 38 yards with a long of 14.
Griffin shared the weekly honor with St. John Fisher's Hunter Walsh as he threw for 480 yards and two touchdowns while running one in himself.Â
He was joined by women's tennis's
Lauren Boshart (Owego, NY/Owego) on Monday as the Saxons of the Week. Boshart was also named the Empire 8 Women's Tennis Co-Player of the Week on Monday as well.
Griffin and the Saxons will next host Morrisville State College on Saturday, October 5 at 1 p.m. for Homecoming Weekend.
