ALBANY, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team dropped an Empire 8 matchup on the road to The Sage Colleges by a 7-2 score at the Albany Academy Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons (2-7, 2-2 Empire 8) earned wins at first doubles and second singles. The doubles team of
Tori Pellegrino (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and
Lauren Boshart (Owego, NY/Owego) prevented a Sage (8-1, 2-0) doubles sweep, defeating Abby Clobridge and Sadie Dunne by an 8-6 score.
In singles, Boshart won her fifth consecutive singles match, cruising to a straight-set, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Dunne. The Gators won five of the six singles matches to win its sixth straight contest.
"Today we lost a tough one against a strong Sage team," remarked head coach
Jordan Crouch. "Hats off to them for playing as well as they did. There are some things we need to work on still in the season and we'll get back to work and get ready for Cortland!"
Alfred will next compete in its final non-conference contest of the fall semester on Tuesday, traveling to SUNY Cortland for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
