ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team won its second Empire 8 match in a row with a shutout, 9-0 win over visiting Utica College on the William T. Brown Tennis Courts on Saturday.

The Saxons (2-5, 2-1 Empire 8) had a clean sweep with only one set having to go extra games. Senior
Tori Pellegrino (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) claimed the match-winning point at No. 1 singles as she tallied a 6-0, 6-0 win.

"It was another great win from our team today! Everyone worked incredibly hard and battled against the heat to come out with a victory," Head Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "Madison [Palmer] was down 5-2 to come back and win it in the first set to show a determined effort!"

The AU doubles teams got things rolling on Saturday as Pellegrino and
Amber Smith (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh) got the 8-5 win at No. 1.
Lauren Boshart (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and
Kailey Reyes (Dallas, TX/Trinity) had an 8-4 win at No. 2 while
Madison Palmer (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) and
Isabelle Benoit (Bow, NH/Tilton School) had a dominant, 8-1 win at No. 3.

Prior to Pellegrino's match-clinching win at No. 1 singles, Smith picked up the first singles win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Boshart won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Before that, though, Palmer defeated her opponent, 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5 and Benoit topped her No. 6 opponent, 6-4, 6-3. Reyes rounded out the afternoon with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.

The Saxons will next head to Oswego, NY to take on Oswego State on Tuesday, September 24 at 3 p.m.
