ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team opened Empire 8 play on Saturday as they traveled to Nazareth College for a match against the Golden Flyers. The Saxons dropped to 2-6 on the season and 0-1 in the conference after a 4-1 loss.
Â
Nazareth was on the board early after a header goal during the 16
th minute.
Â
The Golden flyers added to that lead at the 28:42 mark then scored once more just before half to take a 3-0 into the break.
Â
The Saxons were first to break through in the second period when
Zachary Gloskin (New City, NY / Clarkstown South) lined up for a penalty kick and landed it into the back of the net to cut the deficit to two goals.
Â
Nazareth struck back later in the half and held Alfred off of the scoreboard for the remainder of the game to claim the 4-1 victory.
Â
"Tough loss on the road in our first game in the Empire 8 conference," Head Coach
Tracy Blake said. "We started slow but then got back into the game before giving away the first goal. Their second goal was a great strike from distance. "The second half score was 1-1 and we played really well with team passion until they scored their fourth goal. We need less unforced errors in the game to be successful."
Â
The Saxons will be back on the turf at Yunevich stadium on Wednesday at 7PM as they face off with Ithaca College.
