ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team had its three game win streak snapped on Saturday by nationally ranked Stevens Institute of Technology. The Saxons (6-3, 2-1) fell by a score of 20-5 to the 11
th ranked Ducks.
Â
Stevens was in control from the start, as they scored the first four goals of the game. The Saxons broke through in the scoring column around the six minute mark of the first quarter with a goal from
Anthony Ricottilli (Cortland, NY/Cortland).
Â
The Ducks tacked on three more before
Jeremiah Kinner (Bath, NY/Haverling) made a defensive play, then brought the ball the length of the field to score as time expired, making the game 7-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Â
Momentum began to swing Alfred's way as the second quarter began when
Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) scored a man-up goal to cut the deficit to just four.
Â
Unfortunately for the Saxons, that momentum stalled and the Ducks scored five unanswered to end the half leading 12-3.
Â
The second half began with Stevens adding to its lead, as they outscored AU 5-0 throughout the third period before Fornataro netted his second man-up goal of the game in the closing seconds of the quarter making the score 17-4.
Â
Stevens added three more scores in the final quarter while
Peyton VanBibber (Canton, NY/H.C. Williams) scored AU's only goal of the fourth period.
Â
Cale Donegan (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) had the lone Alfred assist on the day, adding to his team leading point total.
Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) got the start in goal for Alfred and recorded eight saves in 45 minutes.
Brandon Smith (Queens, NY/The Governor's Academy) was in the net for the fourth quarter and added six saves.
Â
The Saxons will look to get back on track next Wednesday as they travel to Houghton College for a 7PM start against the Highlanders.
