Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Chapman Records Four Goals in Loss to Geneseo

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team hosted SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday afternoon. A close matchup the entire way ended with Geneseo coming away with a 13-10 victory over the Saxons (3-2, 0-0 Empire 8).

Jack Chapman (Elmira, NY/Notre Dame) had a huge game for AU, accounting for four goals and one assist.

Patrick Brewer (Bath, NY/Bath-Haverling) recorded his second straight multi-goal game with two goals. Brewer also assisted on two others.

Cale Donegan (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) finished with one goal and three assists on the day while also grabbing five ground balls.

Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Noah Soriano (Valley Cottage, NY/Nyack) ended with a goal and an assist each.

Kyle Landrigan (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) scored one goal while Anthony Ricottilli (Cortland, NY/Cortland) finished with one assist.

Garrette Briggs (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) dominated on face-offs, going 20-24 while leading the Saxons with 13 ground balls.

Gage Ponsetti (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) played all 60 minutes in the net and recorded nine saves.

Alfred was out to a strong start after Chapman and Landrigan made it a 2-0 game before the five minute mark of the first quarter.

A goal from Geneseo at the 2:41 mark of the first got the Knights on the board and made it a 2-1 game after the opening quarter.

The early minutes of the second quarter was all Geneseo as the Knights tied the game at three with just under eight minutes to play in the half.

The teams traded goals for the remainder of the second quarter when a goal from Chapman with just over four minutes to play gave AU the 5-4 advantage heading into the break.

The Saxons put their foot on the gas for much of the third period, as they went up 9-5 at one point following a Fornataro goal.

Geneseo notched two more in the following minutes before Chapman put away his fourth goal of the game to give Alfred a 10-7 lead heading into the final quarter.

Unfortunately for the Saxons the momentum began to swing the way of the Knights in the final period.

Some costly penalties and turnovers allowed Geneseo to gain control as they outscored AU 6-0 in the fourth quarter to come away with the three point victory.

Alfred will look to get back on track this Sunday as they begin conference play with a matchup in Albany against The Sage Colleges at 12PM.
