Saxon Offense Continues to Roll at W & J

WASHINGTON, PA – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team kept its high powered offensive attack rolling on Saturday afternoon at Washington & Jefferson College. The Saxons (2-0, 0-0 Empire 8) defeated the Presidents by a score of 18-5.
 
Cale Donegan (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) had another huge game, accounting for seven points with four goals and three assists. Jack Chapman (Elmira, NY/Notre Dame) also had an impressive showing for the Saxons with six points, including four goals and two assists. 
 
Patrick Brewer (Bath, NY/Bath-Haverling) recorded a hat trick for AU while Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Zack Gibaud (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) scored two goals each.
 
Kyle Landrigan (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua), Anthony Ricotilli (Cortland, NY/Cortland) and Noah Soriano (Valley Cottage, NY/Nyack) all scored one goal while Jake McNaney (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) assisted on two goals. 
 
Garrette Briggs (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) went 17-23 on face offs and picked up  a team high 13 ground balls. Shane Weber (Hull, MA/Hull) grabbed six ground balls and Ian Chedzoy (Watkins Glen, NY/Watkins Glen) caused two turnovers. 
 
Gage Ponsetti (Penn Yann, NY/Penn Yann) picked up the win in the net for Alfred, going 45 minutes and finishing with 12 saves and just three goals allowed. 
 
AU jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Five different Saxons scored in the first quarter, helping Alfred out to a 7-0 lead. 
 
Washington & Jefferson broke through early in the second quarter making the score 7-1 but the Saxons responded with three unanswered to end the half with a 10-1 lead. 
 
AU extended its lead 12-1 in the third quarter until the Presidents netted two goals within one minute in the later minutes of the period making it 12-3. 
 
Brewer and Chapman each scored to close the third quarter and made it a 14-3 game after three. 
 
The Saxons scored four more goals in the fourth quarter and allowed two more from the Presidents in the final 15 minutes. 
 
AU will be back at home this upcoming Wednesday for a matchup with Thiel College at 4PM in Yunevich Stadium.
