ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team hosted Buffalo State College on Tuesday evening. The Saxons (6-11, 2-3 Empire 8) used nearly their entire roster in a 4-2 loss to the Bengals.

The Bengals were on the board early when Moe Saif scored on a shot that snuck through multiple Saxon defenders in the 11
th minute.

Buffalo State added to its lead just five minutes later when a touch pass to Zak Shaibi ended in a direct shot into the back of the net.

AU broke through on the scoreboard in the 34
th minute when
Matthew Wedzik (North East, PA North East) used some impressive ball handling skills to weave his way through the Bengals defense and get a shot pass the goal keeper to make the score 2-1.

In the second half, Buffalo State scored early thanks to an Alfred foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick goal.

The Bengals scored again just minutes later when a cross pass was perfectly placed in front of the net for Shaibi to finish the easy goal.

The Saxons got one back in the 55
th minute when
Andrew Carrillo Macias (Reno, NV / North Valley) worked himself into an opening close to 20 yards out and finished with a left foot over top of the Buffalo State goal keeper to make it 4-2.

That was where it stayed until the clock hit all zeros as the Bengals were able to pick up their 14
th victory on the season.

The Saxons have a high stakes match coming up this Saturday as they travel to St. John Fisher College at 4PM. If Alfred comes away with a win, it will clinch a spot in the Empire 8 playoffs beginning on November 6
th.
