The Series: This is the 45
th meeting between the two clubs, with Alfred holding a 31-12-1 advantage. Prior to 2015, Alfred won 12 straight in the series and nine in a row from 1977-86. This includes two postseason victories: an NCAA second-round win at Cortland in 2010 (34-20) and the ECAC North Central Bowl at home in 2013 (21-14). Four of the last five matchups have been decided by a touchdown or fewer. Alfred and Cortland first met on the gridiron in a night game at Alfred in 1940, a 21-0 Saxon win. Both teams played again after the Second World War in 1946 and 1947, then faced each other every year from 1952-86.
