ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team fell to nationally ranked, University of Rochester on Saturday evening by a score of 1-0. The loss snaps the Saxons (6-2-0, 1-0-0 Empire 8) five game win streak.
The game seemed to be evenly matched throughout play. Both teams struggled to get close to the other's net and get shots on goal. In the 28
thminute, an Alfred handball inside the box, allowed for a UR penalty shot opportunity where Shayna Levy converted for the Yellowjackets to make it 1-0. The game continued to be a defensive battle for the remainder of the contest as that would be the only goal of the game.
Makenzie Cashmer (Weedville, PA/Elk County Catholic) was strong in goal once again for the Saxons, going all 90 minutes with three saves.
"I am very happy with how the team came out and competed tonight,"
Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "Going up against a nationally ranked team and competing with them for 90 minutes is really encouraging for us moving forward."
AU will be back at Yunevich Stadium on Wednesday for an Empire 8 matchup with Elmira College at 7PM.
