ALBANY, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team (5-3, Empire 4-0) remained unblemished in Empire 8 play on Friday afternoon against Sage College defeating the Gators, 7-2.

The Saxons took home the advantage in doubles play, snatching two of the matches. Senior
Rachel Pera (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) and junior
Miranda Salaka (Olean, NY/Olean) earned the first win of the day, taking #3 doubles, 8-1. The match was knotted at 1-1 after the #2 doubles teams for AU dropped the match 4-8. However, seniors
Inda Gillett (South Kortright, NY/Delaware Academy Central) and
Tori Pellegrino (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) battled to an 8-7 (7-3) victory at #1 singles, giving the Saxons a bounce-back win.

AU went on to win five-of-six singles matches en route to their fourth Empire 8 win of the 2018 season. Pellegrino dominated at #1 singles, taking the match 6-1, 6-1. Gillett took #2 singles with a tough match, winning 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Down the stretch, sophomore
Lauren Boshart (Oswego, NY/Oswego) won 6-3, 6-3 while Sakala and Pera took their matches in quick order. Sakala denied her opponent from recording a single game victory, dominating the match 6-0, 6-0.

AU is back in action tomorrow when they travel to Stevens to take on the Ducks at 12PM in Hoboken, NJ.
