ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team (4-2, Empire 3-0) picked up its third Empire 8 win of the season with a 9-0 sweep over the Pioneers of Utica College on Saturday.

The Saxons dominated doubles play, only conceding three sets over the course of three matches. Sophomore
Lauren Boshart (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and senior
Nurila Kambar (Almaty, Kazakhstan/Republic Physics and Mathematics School) waltzed through their win, 8-0 at #2 doubles. Senior
Rachel Pera (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) and junior
Miranda Sakala (Olean, NY/Olean) followed with an 8-1 win at #3 doubles before the senior duo of
Tori Pellegrino (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and
Inda Gillett (South Kortright, NY/Delaware Academy Central) wrapped up the third win, 8-2.

Kambar continued on her tear against Empire 8 opponents, earning her third consecutive win at #4 singles 6-0, 6-1 while playing conference foes. Sakala also dominated at #5 singles, taking the match 6-0, 6-0 to seal the victory for the Saxons.

However, AU was not done as
Amber Smith (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh) won 6-1, 6-0 at #6 singles. Pellegrino, Boshart and Gillett went on to win at #1, #3 and #2 singles to complete the sweep. Both Boshart and Gillett only allowed two sets to opponents.
"Another great win for the Saxons today," first-year Head Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "We came out and played aggressive from the start in doubles and that same tone through the last singles match. Great team match today and we'll look to carry this momentum into tomorrow match against Cortland.

The Saxons turn their attention to SUNY Cortland on Sunday, September 16, hosting the Dragons in Alfred, NY at 12PM.
