OLEAN, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team's (3-2, Empire 8 2-0) three-match winning streak came to an end on Monday evening against Fredonia in a 4-5 showdown versus the undefeated Blue Devils.

The Saxons took two of the three doubles matches at the beginning of the match. The Blue Devils took the first win at #1 doubles before seniors
Kourtney Keys (East Concord, NY/Springville) and
Rachel Pera (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) teamed up for an 8-5 win at #3 doubles.
Nurila Kambar (Almaty, Kazakhstan/Republic Physics and Mathematics School) and
Lauren Boshart (Oswego, NY/Oswego) grabbed the second win at #2 doubles., 8-6.

AU held onto the 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.

Fredonia quickly tied the match up with a win at #1 singles and scampered ahead 4-2 with wins at #5 and #2 singles. Junior
Miranda Sakala (Olean, NY/Olean) kept AU in the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at #4 singles before the Blue Devils snuck out the win at #3 singles to win the match.

Keys went on to win at #6 singles 6-2, 6-2 to close out the evening, 4-5.

"We played well against a tough opponent in Fredonia," Head Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "There were a lot of tight matches and I'm pleased with how we competed. We're looking to use the disappointment of losing a close as some more motivation for us going forward. We'll be better because of this."

The Saxons continue to power through their schedule with a home match against Medaille on September 13 at 4PM.
