ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team fell to visiting Utica College Saturday afternoon, 21-3.
The Saxons (0-14, 0-8 Empire 8) were led by senior midfielder
Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) with two goals while senior defender
Emily MacWilliams (Geneva, NY/Waterloo) with one goal on a free-position attempt.
Senior goalkeeper
Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili), first-year
LeeAnna Bianchi (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Gilbert led the way on defense with three ground balls each. Senior defender
Sarah Thomann (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties Senior) and first-year defender
Sarah Turner (Bentonville, AR) added two ground balls each. Senior defender
Martina Lewis (New York, NY/Fredrick Douglas), Gilbert and Thomann each had two caused turnovers.
Gray went the distance in net, making 16 saves.
The Saxons wrap up the season next Tuesday, May 1
st, as they take on Cazenovia College at 4 PM.
During the pregame ceremony, Alfred University recognized seniors
Jacquelynn Hicks (Greenville, NY/Greenville), Lewis, MacWilliams, Gilbert, Thomann and Gray for their commitment to the Alfred University women's lacrosse program.
"We had a great senior day," said Head Coach
Erin McGaffigan. "It was fabulous to see many faces in the stands and to have such great support. We will miss our seniors."
