ALFRED, NY – Sophomore defender Allison Hanvey (Camden, NY/Camden) and senior midfielder Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) each scored three goals as the Alfred University women's lacrosse team fell to Cazenovia College Tuesday afternoon, 17-11.

The Saxons (0-15, 0-8 Empire 8) were also led by senior attack Jacquelynn Hicks (Greenville, NY/Greenville) with four points (two goals, two assists) while first-year Hannah McNamara (Alden, NY/Alden) added two goals, including her first collegiate goal. First-year attack Paige Rowlee (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) chipped in one goal, which was her first collegiate goal, to round out the scoring for Alfred. Senior defender Emily MacWilliams (Geneva, NY/Waterloo) finished with two assists while Hanvey added one assists.

"It was a tremendous season," said Head Coach Erin McGaffigan. "We couldn't have asked for better weather or better effort from all. It was fantastic to end the season with two players achieving their first goals, as well as many individuals mastering their skills they have been working on all year."

Alfred found themselves down 7-2 at the halfway point of the first half before they outscored the Wildcats 3-1 to close out the half, making it 8-6. The Saxons continued to cut the deficit early in the second half as Mcnamara found the back of the net to make it 8-7 with 28:24 to go in regulation.

Senior goalkeeper Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) led the team in ground balls with five while senior defender Martina Lewis (New York, NY/Fredrick Douglas) added four ground balls. Gilbert chipped in with three groundballs. Gilbert had a team-high three caused turnovers while Lewis had two caused turnovers.

Gilbert had a stellar game in the face-off circle, winning 12 draw controls, breaking the previous school record of 11 by Nicole Petrillo against Oberlin (04.22.00).

Gray went the distance in net, making 19 saves.

Coach McGaffigan added, "We will miss our seniors greatly and I'm happy we were able to conclude the season on such a high note. We decided day one that wins/losses would not be how we would measure our growth and accomplishments. We improved every day, we have grown both in skill and as a team and we will only move forward. I'm very excited to see how we continue to develop and build upon our success."

The Saxons finished the season 0-15 with an empire 8 record of 0-8.
