OLEAN, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team (3-10, 3-5 Empire 8) wrapped up its 2018 spring season with an 8-1 win over the Sage Gators.

The Saxons swept doubles play to jump out to an early 3-0 lead. Seniors
Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean) and
Mike Wisniewski (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville East) paired up in their final match at AU together to win 8-0.
Ryan Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) and
Reeder Bruffey (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) teamed up at #2 doubled to win 8-1 while first years
Adam Shearer (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Michael Ross (Rushville, NY/Marcus Whitman) won by the same score at #3 doubles.

Volz increased the lead to 4-0 when he won at #1 singles, 6-1, 6-1 before Brown won at #3 singles 6-0, 6-1 to seal the match, 5-0. Wisnieski kept the sweep going at #2 singles, winning 6-1, 6-3 before the Gators put their first point on the board, 5-1 at #5 singles.

Sophomore
John Papin (Rochester, NY/The Harley School) took home the fifth point when he edged out his opponent 7-5, 6-2. He was followed by Shearer who took home a win by the same score, 7-5, 6-2.

"This was a great win today," Head Coach
Mike Graham said. "It felt great to end the season with a 'W.' It was a great experience to coach this team and I will cherish it for life."

The Saxons finished their season with a 3-10 overall record and 3-5 record in Empire 8 play.
