ITHACA, NY – The Alfred University softball team (19-15, 6-4 Empire 8) fell to Ithaca College twice on the road in nonconference play on Thursday afternoon.

The Saxons fell 6-4 in the opening game while falling 10-0 in the nightcap due a major inning by the Bombers. Junior
Becca Alexander (Middleton, DE/Middleton) led the Saxons with two hits on the day.

Game One
Â
Ithaca jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom the first inning and added another run in the bottom of the second. Sophomore pitcher
Jessica Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) shut the Bombers down for two innings before they chalked up another three runs to bring the game to 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth.

AU found life in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs when junior
Lea Georgatos (Emerson, NJ/Immaculate Conception) reached first on an error. Her at-bat was followed by a walk by senior
Haley Powers (Newark, DE/St. Georges Tech) before Alexander doubled to right field, scoring Georgatos and advancing Powers to third. Sophomore
Elena Ceja (Redondo Beach, CA/Redondo Beach Union) drilled in two more runs with a single up the middle, bringing the game to 6-3. Senior
Shannon Schaefer (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) added the final run with a double down the right field line, closing out the top of the sixth, 6-4.

Wilcox shut Ithaca down in the bottom of the sixth, giving the Saxons a chance, but they were unable to score in the top of the seventh, going down in order to wrap up the game, 6-4. Â

Jillian Murray (Eden, NY/Eden).

Game Two
Â
The game started out as a pitcher's duel. The Saxons managed runners in scoring position in the first two innings, but were unable to bat them in. Schaefer kept the Bombers on their heels, shutting them out for two innings.

However, Ithaca showed up in the bottom of the third inning and scored 10 runs to put the game out of reach and eventually took the game home, 10-0.

The Saxons return home tomorrow to take on Empire 8 foe, St. John Fisher College at 3PM.
