ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team loss to No. 23 nationally-ranked and Empire 8 foe, Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon, 22-1.
The Saxons' (0-12, 0-6 Empire 8) lone goal came from senior Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) in the second half off of a free position attempt.
Stevens was led by Kyra Bednarski with nine points from six goals and three assists.
Senior Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) made 11 saves in goal and kept Stevens' free position shooters to 1-for-3.
Stevens took 42 shots compared to Alfred's four with 33 on goal while all of AU's shots were on target as starter Stephanie Schnelzer made one save and Peyton Taylor picked up the other two in the second half.
Gilbert also won a team-high four draw controls. Gray and LeeAnna Bianchi (Hilton, NY/Hilton) both had four ground balls while Gray, Sarah Turner (Bentonville, AR) and Sarah Thomann (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties Senior) all had two caused turnovers each.
Alfred University was perfect on clear attempts in the second half, going 4-for-4.
The Saxons will next take on No. 24 nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College on the road on Tuesday, April 24 at 4PM.
