ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team fell to visiting Nazareth College Saturday afternoon, 22-1 at Yunevich Stadium.
The Saxons (0-10, 0-4 Empire 8) got their lone goal from senior midfielder
Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown). Gilbert also led the team in groundballs with four and caused turnovers with three. First-year defender
LeeAnna Bianchi (Hilton, NY/Hilton) finished with three groundballs while four Saxons finished with two apiece. Senior defender
Emily MacWilliams (Geneva, NY/Waterloo) chipped in with two caused turnovers.
"I'm very happy with the quality of defense we played today," said Head Coach
Erin McGaffigan. "Nazareth is a strong program with fast, skilled attackers. We executed our scout wifew defensive issues and made on-field corrections as needed. The score is by no means a reflection of our energy, focus and hard work."
Senior goalkeeper
Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) went the distance in net, making 14 saves.
The Saxons are in action next Wednesday, April 18, as they take on host Houghton College at 7 PM.
