ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University men's tennis team (0-7, 0-2 Empire 8) fell to SUNY Oneonta 3-6 at home on Friday afternoon despite a win at #2 singles by senior
Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean).
The Saxons earned a win by forfeit at #3 doubles to start the match, but fell behind following the remaining doubles matches. Volz and first year
Ryan Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) battled to a 4-8 finish at #1 doubles.
AU earned another win by forfeit at #6 singles, before Oneonta took control of the match, winning at #5, #4, #3 and #1 singles. Volz grabbed the lone win defeating James Garzia 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
"Kevin [Volz] bounced back from a tough doubles match and was able to come away with a great singles win," Head Coach
Mike Graham said. "I think we got some momentum at the end of the match and hope to bring that into tomorrow's match."
The Saxons square off against Empire 8 opponent, Utica, tomorrow at 1PM.
