ALFRED, NY– The Alfred University women's soccer team dominated on senior night on it's way to a 3-0 victory over St. John Fisher College. The Saxons (10-6, 3-4 Empire) used corner kick opportunities early in the game to get in position for two goals.
Â
SeniorÂ
Olivia Cronmiller (Livonia, NY/Livonia)Â began the scoring early for AU when she put a header in the back of the net off of a perfectly placed corner kick fromÂ
Emily Wright (Dallas, TX/Plano West) in the fifth minute. Cronmiller extended the Saxon lead just minutes later when another Wright corner kick deflected over to Cronmiller who put it in goal.Â
Â
The game went quiet for a stretch after the busy opening minutes until
Natalie O'Brien (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa)Â added an insurance goal at the 73:37 mark to put Alfred up 3-0.
Â
Cronmiller led Alfred with two goals. Wright had two assists on the evening while O'Brien had one goal.Â
Makenzie Cashmer (Weedville, PA/Elk County Catholic)Â added a save in the shutout victory.Â
Â
"Our team came out with a lot of energy tonight, putting together a full 90-minute game," Head CoachÂ
Craig Yanni said. "We got two early goals since we were effective on the set pieces, with Amanda or Olivia being on the receiving end of almost every corner kick we had. Defensively, we did great sticking with our plan. Fisher has one of the best strikers in the conference and we did a great job doubling down on her. She touched the ball maybe three or four times which made a huge difference in the game."
Â
Alfred will be on the road next Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with The College at Brockport, beginning at 3PM.Â
