ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team fell to non-conference foe, Fredonia State on Tuesday evening. The Saxons (3-9, 2-1 Empire 8) were unable to cash in on some late opportunities and fell to the Blue Devils by a score of 1-0.
 
The game went into the half at a scoreless tie as both teams struggled to get on the board. Fredonia finally broke through at the 62:17 mark when a header in front of the net found the foot of Conrad Rathbun to make it 1-0. From that point on Alfred controlled the ball for the most part with some great opportunities that went just wide of the net and were unable to cash in at the end.
 
Joe Gonzalez (Marion, NY/Marion) continued to stay strong in goal, playing all 90 minutes with three saves including a tremendous stop in the 70^th minute to keep it to a one goal game.

"Dropped an out of conference game versus Fredonia. We just didn't get started and we have to get into the game quicker and be stronger," Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "In the second half, after they went in front 1-0, I thought we had our best teamwork and had two or three glorious chances to equalize the score. We need to be better on Saturday when we go to Houghton in E8 play." 
 
AU will be on the road this weekend for an Empire 8 matchup with Houghton College on Saturday afternoon beginning at 3:30PM.
