BUFFALO, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team traveled to Buffalo on Wednesday evening for a non-conference matchup with D'Youville College. The Saxons (9-6, 2-4 Empire 8) defeated the Spartans by a score of 2-1. 
 
It did not take long for AU to get on the scoreboard when a shot from Emily Wright (Dallas, TX/Plano West) deflected off of the crossbar and into the net to put the Saxons up 1-0 after the first six minutes of play.  Alfred extended its lead at the 21:40 mark when Wright set up Amanda Guariglia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) for a header to go up 2-0. 
 
D'Youville finally broke through on the scoreboard in the 70^thminute on a goal from Victoria Mayer to cut the AU lead to just one. The Saxons would tighten up their defense for the remainder of the contest and were able to walk away with a 2-1 victory.
 
"It was nice to get back into the win column against a very organized and well coached team," head coach Craig Yanni said. We came out very strong in the first half and moved the ball very well."
 
Wright led the Saxons with three shots on goal and an assist. Abigail Austin (Hornell, NY/Hornell), Natalie O'Brien (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) and Karah Landries (Angelica, NY/Genesee Valley) each had two shots on goal while Olivia Cronmiller (Livonia, NY/Livonia) and Sierra Wilson (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) had one a piece. 
 
Alfred will be back at home this upcoming Saturday for its Senior Day game against St. John Fisher College beginning at 6PM.
