BUFFALO, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team traveled to Buffalo on Wednesday evening for a non-conference matchup with D'Youville College. The Saxons (9-6, 2-4 Empire 8) defeated the Spartans by a score of 2-1.Â

It did not take long for AU to get on the scoreboard when a shot fromÂ
Emily Wright (Dallas, TX/Plano West) deflected off of the crossbar and into the net to put the Saxons up 1-0 after the first six minutes of play.  Alfred extended its lead at the 21:40 mark when Wright set upÂ
Amanda Guariglia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South)Â for a header to go up 2-0.Â

D'Youville finally broke through on the scoreboard in the 70
thminute on a goal from Victoria Mayer to cut the AU lead to just one. The Saxons would tighten up their defense for the remainder of the contest and were able to walk away with a 2-1 victory.
