ALFRED, NY -- After winning a total of five individual swimming races last week, first-year
Lauren Serotta (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) was selected as the Empire 8 Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Serotta led the Saxons at Hartwick College with three first-place finishes in individual events. She defeated the rest of the pool in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.69, besting them by almost three seconds and still earning yet another spot in the Top-15 in Alfred University history. Her 200-yard backstroke was also a Top-15 time as she swam a 2:19.42 for the win. Serotta finished her wins with a 2:28.61 in the 200-yard individual medley. She teamed with fellow Saxons,
Amanda Guariglia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South),
Liz Schiffhauer (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) and
Kristin Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) for a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay where they swam a 2:01.80. Serotta had the fastest backstroke leg of the race with a 29.33, topping the rest of the five-team field by almost two whole seconds or more.
Serotta also won two individual titles during Thursday's meet at Division II LeMoyne College. She won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:17.65 and the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:25.09.
Serotta and the Saxons will next host Ithaca College in their final dual meet of the season on Saturday, January 27 at 1PM in the Lebohner Pool. Saturday's meet is their Saxon-for-Saxon meet and the entire day is the Alfred University Athletics Community Day. For more information, follow this
