BETHANY, WV – The Alfred University women's soccer team shut down Bethany College Saturday afternoon, 1-0 on the road in non-conference action.
The Saxons (3-4-3, 0-0-2 Empire 8) got on the board in the middle of the first half when senior defender
Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) connect on the inbounds throw from junior midfielder
Alyssa Garbarino (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) for the game's lone goal.
"It's nice to continue to play well on the road especially on a long trip like this," head coach
Craig Yanni said. "The girls stayed focused and did what they had do in order to get the result."
Alfred dominated in shots taken with 15 (seven on goal) in comparison to Bethany's three (one on goal) and in corner kicks, 10-2.
Senior goalkeeper
Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) recorded her second shutout of the week to earn the win. The Bison's split time in net with
Mari Concha Vazquez getting the start and picking up the loss while making two saves on three shots faced.
Anna Riddle started the second half for Bethany, making three saves.
The Saxons look to continue to play great defense as they wrap up their four-game road trip as they travel to No. 9 SUNY Geneseo Tuesday, October 3, at 4:30 pm.
