HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer time tied with host Houghton College Wednesday evening, 0-0.
The Saxons (2-4-3, 0-0-2 Empire 8) came away with some feeling of revenge after falling to the Highlanders last year, 3-0.
Alfred made smart decisions on offense as six of seven shots were on goal with junior forward
Emily Wright (Dallas, TX/Plano West) and sophomore forward
Lexi Riffelbach (Clifton Park, NY/Catholic Central) leading the way with two shots apiece. Houghton had 13 shots on goal out of 17 shots attempted.
"Sammy Jo played her all around best game of the year and continually made great saves to keep us in the game," said head coach
Craig Yanni. "The team put in 110 minutes of hard work and was determined to come away with a result."

Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) was stellar in net, making a season-high 13 saves in the shutout.
Sadie Dunnett went the distance in net for the Highlanders, making six saves.
The Saxons enter the back half of their four game road trip as they travel to Bethany, West Virginia Saturday, September 30
th, to take on Bethany College at 11 a.m.
