ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team shutout Empire 8 foe Utica College, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Yunevich Stadium.
The Saxons (1-4, 1-0 Empire 8) were evenly matched with the visiting Pioneers through the first half before senior midfielder
Miguel Reyes (Valenicia, Venezuela/La Salle) was able to connect on a free kick from 20 yards out in the 51
st minute. Senior midfielder
Cody Cronmiller (Livonia, NY/Livonia) then took advantage of a penalty kick in the 58
th minute to put the game out of reach.
"This has been a long and hard journey," head coach
Tracy Blake said about entering Empire 8 play. "We've been chomping at the bit to get to conference play." When asked about the next conference game against Stevens, Coach Blake said "It's going to be a great atmosphere with it being our Saxon-for-Saxon game, bringing other athletes in Saxon Nation to the game. It's great to be a Saxon!"
Alfred held the slight edge in shots, 15-11, while dominating in corner kick opportunities, 8-2.

Alfred will be in the midst of their three game home stand as they face Pitt.-Bradford Wednesday, September 20
th, at 5 p.m. Following that game, the Saxons will be home to host Stevens College on September 23
rd in the Saxon-for-Saxons game at 5 p.m.
