ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team tied with visiting D'Youville College Saturday evening, 1-1.
The Saxons (2-3-1, 0-0 Empire 8) got on the board first as sophomore forward
Lexi Rifflebach (Clifton Park, NY/Catholic Central) had the beautiful entry pass to set up senior forward
Leigha Allen (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) to take the 1-0 lead in the 26
th minute.
With both teams battling hard, the Spartans were able to tie the game up as
Magan Magee got the equalizer in the 86
th minute.
"Both teams played a very physical game," said head coach
Craig Yanni. "Both teams battled the entire game." When asked about the upcoming game against Brockport, coach Yanni said that "they will be one of the top two teams we'll play all year." "We'll have to adjust how well they play and we'll get a great result."
Alfred dominated in shot opportunities, 17-9, while each team had one corner attempt.
Senior goalie
Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream) went the distance in net, making two saves on three shots faced.
The Saxons next play this Tuesday, September 19
th, as they host SUNY Brockport at 6 p.m.
