KEUKA, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team defeated host Keuka College Wednesday evening, 2-1.
The Saxons (2-3, 0-0 empire 8) got on the board early as junior
Emily Wright (Dallas, TX/Plano West) connected on a free kick at the 27
th minute.
Coming into the second half, Keuka was able to get the equalizer from
Emily McGuigan at the 54
th minute. With regulation coming to a close, senior
Taylor Miller (Medina, NY/Medina) scored her first career goal at Alfred University in the 81
st minute off the feed from first-year
Quinn Fowler (Chester, NY/Washingtonville).
"Tonight was a very physical game. Both teams battled for the entire game. We did a great job of keeping up the intensity after they got the equalizer.
Emily Wright was very dangerous for us on free kicks creating multiple chances for us," said head coach
Craig Yanni.
Alfred held the slight advantage in shots, 14-10 while Keuka held the advantage in corner kicks, 3-2.
Senior
Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream) earned the win in net, making four saves on five shots faced.
Alfred is home this Saturday, September 16
th, as the face D'Youville College at 7 p.m.
