ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team closed out the season with an 11-6 victory over St. John Fisher College Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons (7-7, 3-5 Empire 8) were led offensively by sophomore
Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) with four goals to go along with three goals from junior
Jake Lynch (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) and two goals from senior
Derek Bishopp (Livonia, NY/Livonia). Junior
Brett McMichael (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) had a great day setting up his teammates as he finished with three assists.
Lynch got the scoring going in the first quarter off of the feed from McMichael at the 13:40 mark with Fornataro scoring at the 9:53 mark. Fisher cut the deficit to one as
Zach Wagner scored with :58 left in the first.
Bishopp started the scoring in the third at the 12:18 mark before Fisher scored two straight goals to make the score 7-4. Lynch put the game on ice, scoring with 2:18 left in the game and added one more with eight seconds remaining.
The Saxons were led defensively by Bishopp, junior
David LaSpina (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Garrette Briggs (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) as they each finished with three ground balls. First-year
Shane Weber (Hull,MA/Hull) led the team in caused turnovers with two.
Briggs had a game high eight faceoff wins (out of nine).
Junior
Chris Doktor (Irondequoit, NY/Eastridge) earned the win as he went the distance in net, making a career-high 12 saves off of 18 shots on goal he faced.
