ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team fell to opposing Houghton College, 17-6 on senior night at Yunevich Stadium Wednesday evening.

The Saxons (3-11, 0-7 Empire 8) were led offensively by junior
Taylor Miller (Medina, NY/Medina) as she scored two goals and had one assist. Fellow junior
Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and senior
Tracy Johnston (Akron, NY/Akron) also scored two goals apiece for the Saxons.

Alfred was led defensively by Gilbert, senior
Dana Ganley (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) and junior
Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) with four ground balls each. Gilbert also led the team in caused turnovers with two.

Alfred came into the second half controlling the ball in Houghton's zone as they scored the first four goals of the half to cut the deficit to 12-6 before Houghton built on their lead.

The Highlanders held the advantage in shots, 39-25, and in draw controls, 16-9. The Saxons held the slight advantage in ground balls, 19-18.

Gray went the distance in net, making 15 saves on 32 shots faced in the loss.

Alfred closes out the season this Saturday, April 29
th, as they travel to take on Nazareth College at 3 p.m.
