CANTON, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team outscored the non-conference host, SUNY Canton Roos 5-3 in the first half on Wednesday evening but fell 6-13 at the end of regulation.
The Saxons (3-9, 0-5 Empire 8) scored five, unassisted goals in the first half behind the two-goal effort of both junior
Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and junior
Taylor Miller (Medina, NY/Medina). Both of Gilbert's goals were from free position while Miller had one. Senior
Tracy Johnston (Akron, NY/Akron) added to the scoring in the first half as well.
Johnston was the lone Saxon to score in the second half.
SUNY Canton outshot the Saxons 46-19 on the day (28-13 on goal). The Roos also topped Alfred University 16-5 in draw controls and 34-27 in ground balls.
Junior
Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) led Alfred in ground balls with nine. Gilbert followed with eight ground balls. Gray also made 15 saves on the evening.
The Saxons will next host St. John Fisher on Saturday, April 22 at 12pm.
