ELMIRA, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team fell on the road to Empire 8 foe, Elmira College Saturday afternoon, 4-14.

Junior attack
Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) led the Saxons with two first half goals. Both scores were scored from free position. They were also her 15
th and 16
th free position goals of the season, 30 goals total. Her season-high in goals was set last year with 31.

Seniors
Tracy Johnston (Akron, NY/Akron) and
Leah Ellithorpe (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) both found the net on the day as well. Both of their scores came in the second half. Johnston's goal was a man up goal with an assist from junior
Taylor Miller (Medina, NY/Medina).

Junior goalie
Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) made 16 saves on the day. Elmira's
Lindsay Wargo played the full 60 minutes and made eight saves.

The Saxons were outshot 40-17 (30-12 on goal) and were beat on draw controls 14-6. Elmira edged Alfred University with 31 total ground balls while the Saxons only managed 20. Both teams turned the ball over 20 times.

Gray led Alfred with five ground balls.
Sarah Thomann (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties Senior) and
Emily MacWilliams (Geneva, NY/Waterloo) both had three. Five Saxons had one caused turnover.

The Saxons will next stay on the road as they travel to Canton, NY to take on the Roos of SUNY Canton on Wednesday, April 9. The game will start at 4 pm. Then, the Saxons will return to The Pit as they host St. John Fisher College on Saturday, April 22 at 12 pm and then Houghton College on Wednesday, April 26 for a 7 pm start. Alfred University closes its season on Saturday, April 29 at 3 pm on the road at Nazareth College.
