ALFRED, NY – Junior
Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) was able to find the back of the net five times as the Alfred University women's lacrosse team loss 18-7 against SUNY Poly Sunday afternoon at Yunevich Stadium.
Senior
Megan Wendt (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) rounded out the scoring for the Saxons (1-4, 0-0 Empire 8) as she scored two goals.
The Wildcats were led by
Mari Ames with 8 points (6 goals, 2 assists) and
Krysta Beha with nine points (4 goals, five assists).
The Saxons were down 5-2 with 6:39 remaining in the first half before Gilbert took over the game. She scored four unanswered goals, closing out the first half and opening the second, to put Alfred on top with 25:48 remaining in regulation. This was Alfred's only lead of the game with the 6-5 advantage.
Senior
Dana Ganley (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) led the Saxons in ground balls with five and in caused turnovers with three. Gilbert and junior
Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) had three ground balls apiece.
Gray went the distance in net making 15 saves (a season-high) on 33 shots on goal as she picked up the loss.
The Saxons are back in action this Wednesday, March 29
th, as they Host Hilbert College at 4 p.m.
