ALFRED, NY -- During the final week of the 2017 regular season for Division III football, Alfred University players earned two-thirds of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week selections on Monday afternoon.
Senior
Maleke Fuentes (Olean, NY/Olean) was selected as the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week. He had the best rushing game in Alfred University history as he ran the ball 25 times for 295 yards and five touchdowns. Fuentes and the rest of the runners for the Saxons broke the school record for most rushing yards in a single game with 627, shattering the old record of 482 set against Hobart College in 1990. As an individual, he broke the school record for most rushing yards in a single game, topping
Chaz Bruce's '04 record of 282 against Norwich University in 2004. He tied
Jesse Raynor '03 and his five rushing touchdowns in a single game. Raynor, a Hall of Fame Inductee of 2015, met that mark twice in his career against Canisius College in 2000 and Utica College in 2001.
Senior
Trevor Monk (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) tied an Empire 8 record with nine made extra points in a 63-21 win over Hartwick on Saturday. Also had one punt for 31 yards and 10 kickoffs for a total of 501 yards (50.1 yards per attempt).
Fuentes and Monk along with the rest of the Saxons will next head to Delaware Stadium to take on Stevenson University in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference James Lynah Bowl on Sunday, November 19 at noon.
