Saxons fall on the road to No. 16 Stevens in Empire 8 women’s soccer action

HOBOKEN, NJ – The Alfred University women's soccer team lost to host, No. 16 Stevens Institute of Technology, 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the DeBaun Complex.

Sophomore defender Danielle Perry (Leicester, NY/York) and junior midfielder Emily Wright (Dallas, TX/Plano West) were the only Saxons (4-7-3, 1-2-2 Empire 8) to have shots on goal. Both shots were saved by Stevens' Lindsey Mahnken.

"We knew coming in it was going to be a tough game," said head coach Craig Yanni. "Sammy Jo came up big throughout the game, making many tremendous saves."

Senior goalkeeper Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) went the distance in net, making 16 saves on 20 shots faced. Mahnken earned the win for the Ducks, making two saves in 82:53 minutes played. Erika McCarthy went the rest of the way for Stevens.

The Saxons return home, as they host SUNY Canton on Wednesday, October 18th, at 5:30 p.m. This will be Alfred's Pink Game to help spread Breast Cancer awareness.
