WESTMINSTER, PA -- The Alfred University men's soccer team fell to the hosts of the weekend tournament, Westminster University, 3-0 on Saturday evening.
The Saxons (1-1, 0-0 Empire 8) were led on the offensive front by senior
Richard Lander (Narrowsburg, NY/Sullivan West). Lander put all three of his shots on goal while sophomore
Alexander Tostanoski (Corning, NY/Corning Painted-Post) placed both of his shots on goal.
Alfred University actually outshot the hosts 16-13 but fell short in the number of shots that were on target, 8-3. Junior keeper
Chris Gutierrez (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) made five saves.
Saturday's game was a neck-to-neck meeting with a 0-0 score until the 27th minute of the first half when Westminster put in their first goal. The game would remain at the 1-0 deficit for the Saxons until the Titans were able to put two more goals in during the 61st and 65th minutes of the game, respectively.
Westminster had eight corner kick attempts compared to Alfred's four.
The Saxons will next face-off with Medaille College on Friday, September 9 at 3:30 pm. The weekend is the Bryan Karl '86 Alumni Soccer Tournament that will last from Friday until Sunday at Yunevich Stadium.
