ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team defeated visiting King's College by the score of 2-1 in overtime Wednesday evening at Yunevich Stadium.

The Monarchs got on the scoreboard early in the second half, four minutes into play, when Kevin Mazol found Fabio Massa to give them the 1-0 edge.

The Saxons (5-1-1, 0-0-1 Empire 8) made the late surge with three minutes remaining in regulation when junior midfielder/ defensemen
Miguel Reyes (Valencia, Venezuela/La Salle) capitalized on the free kick to send the game into overtime.

Richard Lander (Narrowsburg, NY/Sullivan West) scored the game winning goal with just over two minutes remaining in the overtime period to give the Saxons the victory. The goal was assisted by junior defensemen
Kade McGarrity (Angola, NY/Lake Shore Central) and junior defensemen
Sam Craver (Great Falls, VA/The Field School).

The Saxons had the slight advantage in shots, 14-12 and dominated in corner shots, 14-2.

Chris Gutierrez (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) earned the win by making three saves. The Monarch's Owen Geedey earned the loss and made one save during the game.

Alfred University is on the road this Friday, September 23, at 7 p.m. when they take on host Utica College in Empire 8 action.
