ALFRED, NY – The Saxons. Alfred University is one of 32 teams out of the entire NCAA Division III that have a unique nickname and we do not share it with anyone else. For that, Sports Illustrated's Campus Rush is hosting a 32-team tournament to find out who has the best nickname.
 
The NCAA Division III level has over 400 member institutions with nearly 20 percent of them sharing a nickname with at least seven other schools. The nicknames, Eagles, Lions, Panthers and Tigers are shared by 10 or more schools.
 
In the 32-team nickname tournament, the Alfred University Saxons are spotted at the #6 spot in the Midwest region. We are going against the Coe College Kohawks in the first round as they are the #3 spot.

Alfred University is the only Empire 8 school in the tournament.
