Second Half Surge is Not Enough for Saxons

Mack ties caused turnover career-high

ALFRED, NY—The Alfred University women's lacrosse team closed their season with a 13-7 loss at home against Elmira College Sunday afternoon.

The Saxons scored three goals over three minutes midway through the second half, coming within striking distance, 11-7, before allowing the Soaring Eagles to net back-to-back goals to secure the game. Junior Tracy Johnston (Akron, NY/Akron) started the AU run with 15:43 remaining in the game. Her goal was followed by freshman Morgan Timmerman's (Cortland, NY/Cortland) who wrapped around the net to catch the goalie off guard. Junior Megan Wendt (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) scored the final goal on a free-position shot.

Wendt paced the Saxons with two goals in the matchup. Elmira's Moorea Spoljaric scored a game-high five goals.

Seniors Aubrey Fry (Jasper, NY/Jasper) and Rachel Ball (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) scored a goal each in their final appearance in Yunevich Stadium on Senior Day. Sophomore Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) rounded out the scoring for the Saxons while leading the team with six ground balls. The young attack player also notched three caused turnovers and eight draw controls.

Senior Kerry Mack (Weedsport, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) led the team with five caused turnovers, trying her career-high she set against SUNY IT earlier this season (3/19/16). Mack also collected four ground balls and two draw controls in her final game. Fellow senior Brianna Dudick (Somers, NY/Somers) accumulated two ground balls.

Sophomore Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) had a game-high 11 saves while adding five ground balls over 60 minutes of play. Gray completed the season, playing every minute for the Saxons.
