ALFRED, NY—Senior-junior duo Tanner Morse (Corning, NY/Corning Painted-Post East) and Derek Bishopp (Livonia, NY/Livonia) each scored a hat trick and added an assist to hand Baldwin Wallace its first loss of the season at Yunevich Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Junior Nick Skibitsky (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East), sophomore Jake Lynch (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) and freshman Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) scored two goals each while junior John Winchell (Vestal, NY/Vestal) scored once.  Winchell led Alfred University (5-1, E8 0-0) with three assists in the contest.

Derek Andrews scored three goals to pace the Yellow Jackets (5-1, OAC 0-0). Brock Riemenschneider had three assists in the matchup.

The Saxons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter, holding Baldwin Wallace scoreless until the 12th minute of the game.  Finally, with 2:04 to go in the stanza the Yellow Jackets netted a goal to get on the scoreboard.

Baldwin Wallace tightened the game up in the opening minute of the second quarter on a goal from Steve Wozniak. However, the Saxons answered back with a goal from Fornataro before the Yellow Jackets went on a three-goal run to grab the lead 5-4 with 2:47 to go in the half. Once again, AU answered back with three goals in the last two minutes to snag the lead heading into the locker room, 7-6.

The Saxons increased the lead in the third quarter until Baldwin Wallace knotted the game, 8-8, on back-to-back goals. Over the course of the final 6:05 of the third quarter, Morse took over the game and netted a hat trick on three consecutive goals to give AU an 11-8 lead.

In the final quarter the Yellow Jackets attempted to come back, outscoring the Saxons 3-2, but the AU defense parried away the offensive attempts of Baldwin Wallace. Bishopp closed out the scoring in the game with an unassisted goal with 6:01 left to play. AU finished the game on top, 13-11.

Senior Max Wilson (Menlo Park, CA/Menlo-Atherton) posted a career-high with seven ground balls in the game and led the Saxons with three caused turnovers. Fellow senior Nolan Jessop (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) tied his career-best with six ground balls, matching his total he posted against Hilbert College during his freshman campaign.  Jessop chipped in two caused turnovers as well.
