CLERMONT, FL – The Alfred University softball team rebounded from an early morning loss to Misericordia University with a 2-0 win over Penn State-Behrend Friday afternoon during their spring break trip.
The Saxons (6-4, 0-0 Empire 8) were led by sophomore
Haley Powers (Newark, DE/St. Georges Tech) who belted the only two doubles of the game where both of them drove in senior
Samantha Jauregui (Lindsay, CA/Lindsay) in the fourth and sixth innings.
In both the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings, the Saxons' scoring efforts were mirrored as they both started with the slapper Jauregui singling to get on first and senior
Dana Torchia (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Township) recording the sacrificed bunt to send Jauregui to second.

Nicole Maher (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) hit a single to send the scoring run at third that was followed by the Powers double while in the sixth, Jauregui advanced to third when Maher flew out to center field before crossing home plate on the sophomore's double.
The Saxons recorded five hits and two errors on the day while PSU-Behrend had six hits and no errors.
Sophomore pitcher
Shannon Schaefer (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) picked up her third win of the season (3-1) as she pitched all seven innings, striking out two and walking none.
Alfred University will round out its spring break trip with games against the University of Northwestern (MN) on Saturday, March 12 at 1:00 pm and Anderson University (IN) at 5:00 pm before coming home to open up Empire 8 play with a double-header against Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday, April 1 at Harrington Park. First pitch to be thrown at 3:00 pm of the double-feature.
