Alfred Falls to Luther College in the Thrivent Financial Tournament Consolation Game

THOUSAND OAKS, NY – The Alfred University men' s basketball team fell late to Luther College Friday night by the score of 65-60.
 
The Saxons (3-6, E8 0-0) had seven player in the scoring column as senior guard Tyler Seelman (Lorton, VA/Hayfield Secondary) scored 13 points and senior guard Julian Reinhart (Hornell, NY/Hornell) scored 10 points as he drained two three point shots and also had four assists. Jared Nicolaisen led the way for Luther College as he had 15 points, respectively.
 
It was a back and forth battle in the early goings of the first half as teams traded baskets as no teams was able to gain an advantage early. Alfred had a four point lead at the 13:11 mark as sophomore Sam Dagon (Hornell, NY/Hornell ) drained the jumper to give the Saxons the 10-6 lead. Luther College found its rhythm towards the end of the first half as they go into halftime with the 34-27 lead.
 
Alfred got it going in the second half as Seelman knocked down a three to tie the game up at 36 all at the 13:09 mark and also converted the layup at the :25 mark after that to give the Saxons the 38-36 advantage. Luther College would open up its lead with a three point made by Spencer Sturges to give them the eight point lead. The game would come down to free throws as Luther College made eight more than Alfred to seal the win.
 
Alfred dominated in the paint as they outscored Luther College 34-26 and also had the advantage in points off turnovers, 15-4. Luther College had the edge in bench points, 25-19.
 
The Saxons are in action next Tuesday, January 3rd, as the take on Ithaca College to open up Empire 8 play at 8 p.m.
