Alfred University men’s soccer team ties Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher College

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team tied with St. John Fisher College Saturday afternoon by the score of 3-3.
 
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard early as defender Bryan Rollins found the net in the second minute of play. Later in the 10th minute there was a miscue in Alfred's own end as the ball rolled into the net giving the Cardinals the 2-0 advantage.
 
The Saxons (7-3-2,1-1-2 E8) got into the scoring column in the 21st minute when sophomore defensemen Brennan Jelstrom (Loudonville, NY / Shaker) was able to find junior midfielder/ defensemen Miguel Reyes (Valencia, Venezuela / La Salle) to make it a 2-1 game.
 
Later in the first half at the 29th minute, senior forward Oumar Soumahoro (New York, NY / Martin Luther King) tied the game up at 2-2. The goal was assisted by senior midfielder Graeme Corrigan (Troy, NY / Troy).  Four minute later in the half Soumahoro scored his second goal of the contest with the assist coming from sophomore midfielder Adam Taylor (Newton, NJ / Sussex County Technical).
 
The lone goal in the second half was scored by Rollins for the Cardinals that would force the game into overtime.
 
The Saxons had the advantage in shots, 25-18. The Saxons also dominated in corner kicks, 9-3.
 
Junior goalie Chris Gutierrez earned the tie while making two saves on the afternoon. Joe Catalfamo earned the tie for the Cardinals as he made seven saves on the afternoon.
 
Alfred hits the road this Wednesday, October 12, as they take on host Geneva College (PA.) at 7p.m.
